# StartShield Solar Panel Loss Calculator

The [StartShield Solar Panel Loss Calculator](https://calculator.starshield.com.ph/) is a free web application that estimates how much electricity and money dirty solar panels may be costing homes and businesses in the Philippines.

StartShield is the **#1 Premium Solar Panel Cleaning & Nano Coating Service in the Philippines**.

## What the calculator can estimate

The calculator combines Philippine location-based soiling conditions with a solar system's size, age, cleaning history, and visible panel condition. It estimates:

- Clean monthly solar generation potential
- Current monthly generation after estimated soiling loss
- Electricity being lost in kWh
- Lost electricity value in Philippine pesos
- Potential savings after professional cleaning
- Clean-baseline value retained in the nano-coating comparison
- Projected values for 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years

The result can be downloaded as a branded PDF report. A customer can also open a prefilled [StartShield Messenger conversation](https://m.me/688825044312058).

## Information requested

Before calculating, the application asks for the customer's name, phone number, email address, and property location. Solar inputs include:

- Philippine soiling location preset
- Year installed
- Number of panels or solar system size in kWp
- Number of professional cleanings
- Visible panel condition

When only panel count is entered, system capacity is estimated at **0.55 kWp per panel**.

## Calculation summary

The calculator uses:

- **110 kWh per kWp** as expected monthly yield
- **PHP 14.82 per kWh** as the fixed electricity value
- Location-specific cleaning windows and soiling-loss ranges
- Condition multipliers for unknown, light, noticeable, and heavy soiling

The main formulas are:

```text
Clean monthly yield = effective system size × 110 kWh/kWp
Monthly electricity lost = clean monthly yield × estimated soiling loss
Estimated current output = clean monthly yield − monthly electricity lost
Monthly peso loss = monthly electricity lost × PHP 14.82/kWh
```

Metro Manila Core uses a typical **15–25%** range. It can reach a separate **30% ceiling only when heavy soiling is selected**. Other locations keep their published preset ceilings.

## Philippine location presets

| Preset | Suggested loss range | Cleaning window |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| Metro Manila Core | 15–25%; up to 30% when heavily soiled | 3 months |
| Greater Manila & Industrial Belt | 12–22% | 3–4 months |
| Metro Cebu & Coastal Urban Centers | 10–20% | 3–4 months |
| Major Mindanao Cities | 9–18% | 3–4 months |
| Western Visayas Cities | 9–17% | 3–4 months |
| Central Luzon Urban & Industrial | 9–18% | 3–4 months |
| CALABARZON Regional Cities | 8–17% | 3–4 months |
| Baguio–La Trinidad | 7–15% | 4 months |
| Other Regional Cities | 7–15% | 4 months |
| Provincial Towns | 5–12% | 4–6 months |
| Rural & Agricultural | 5–15% | 4 months |

## Nano-coating benefits described by StartShield

### Anti-reflective coating

Reduces light reflection so panels can absorb more light.

### Anti-dust and anti-static

Suppresses static electricity, reducing the ability of fine particles to stick to the panels.

### Photocatalytic reaction

Uses sunlight to help break down organic dirt and stains.

### Superhydrophilic surface

Causes rain or water to sheet off evenly, carrying away dust and debris and supporting a self-cleaning effect.

The calculator does **not** assume an additional nano-coating generation uplift because no verified uplift percentage has been supplied.

## Important limitation

This tool provides an illustrative estimate, not a guaranteed performance result. Actual losses vary with weather, shade, temperature, system condition, panel angle, equipment performance, and the type and distribution of dirt.
